What's In My Toolbox Part 2 Passion Planner
Passion Planner Today I’d like to talk about my Passion Planner which I’ve been using for a decade. (That’s as long as it’s existed!) I initially got a free download pdf of the planner for sharing the kickstarter on social media. I printed it out at staples using different coloured paper for each month and put it in a binder. For I think the first 3 years I used the free downloadable version. They have a bunch of free downloads on their site. Whole planners, one month, daily planners, various habit trackers. If you’d like a real planner and can’t afford one, you can email them as they have a buy one give one program. They are kind of pricey, especially here in Canada where there’s the double whammy of the USD to CAD exchange and then the shipping costs which nearly double the price, but I found that I really loved using it and the cost has been worth it to me. I get it every year. They come in three different sizes. I’ve used the two biggest ones and seem to have settled on the mid sized one. They are very goal oriented and have space to write good things that happen each week, blank space for notes, time blocks which are slightly off kilter for a musician as they end at 10pm (which is sometimes before my gigs even start) and they have weekly inspirational quotes which I of course can’t stand, (Kyla is allergic to platitudes) so I make a habit tracker sticker and cover them up.
The habit tracker sticker changes a little each year (or not) depending on my goals. This year I have added ‘Dress like Barbie’ and ‘Shred for Satan’ to the list to track that I’m wearing all the clothes in my closet, and that I’m doing daily deliberate practice. Still on the list are ‘Abs like Majima’ (for exercise) ‘Fight like Kiryu’ (for tai chi) ‘Joy of Tidying Up’ for housework ‘Romance’ and ‘Vitamins’ (which should be obvious)
There’s a couple pages for monthly review questions, and each month it asks you to chose one specific goal to be your main focus for the month. There are a bunch of blank pages at the back which I have tended to use somewhat randomly. The first page is always where I list my goals for the year, but after that it gets a bit murky. This year I set them up very specifically to focus my plans for my various goals. I’m also trying to use colour more. I did this thing last year where I associated different types of tasks with a different colour and would put time blocks in my planner via colour. This year I plan to continue that but would like to expand the use of colour further. I always see pictures on the internet (and the inside of my husband’s) of people’s carefully created bullet journals. I am incapable of making such pristine notes, but I do like the way folks have added colourful titles to their books. I’m doing some stuff like that with my back pages.
