That Shade of Pink
It’s my wedding anniversary today and one of the things that make me and my husband so compatible is that he likes shoes too and loves to go shoe shopping with me. He was with me when I saw these shoes, which are very like the imaginary pair of shoes I describe in my song Shoe Shopping: A Poem. We found ourselves in Montreal last summer so we headed downtown to hit Holt Renfrew to look at fancy shoes.
Imagine our shock and dismay when we got downtown and saw the empty building where Holt used to be! Then the relief upon googling to discover that they had simply moved into the Ogilvy Mall a block down the street.
The shoes are on the top floor and as I crested the top of the escalator, I saw these across the well managed display room. I was imagining the general work of Christian Louboutin when I wrote those lyrics, but was not thinking about any particular pair of shoes. When I saw these my first thought was that since they are so exactly what the song describes, I would simply have to buy them. Unfortunately, their sizing is a little more narrow than his other shoes and I would have had to buy a pair a half-size up, but they just didn’t quite feel right. Fortunately, another pair of shoes called out to me that day, but I think about these often. Sigh.
